Cascais Cultural Center is located in Av. Rei Humberto II de Itália, Cascais.

Secular building, the Cultural Center of Cascais was born from the rehabilitation of the old Convent of Our Lady of Mercy. Since 15 May 2000, it constitutes a multidisciplinary space, especially aimed at the visual arts. It also has a beautiful auditorium with capacity for 144 seats, suitable for hosting conferences, seminars, small music concerts and performances, as well as a pleasant snack-bar served by a terrace.

The convent was built by D. António de Castro, who wanted to install the first Portuguese College of Philosophy, and the works were completed in 1641. The convent's history until 1834 is described in the Chronicle of the Carmelites Barefoot, religious order that occupied it until that date, when those religious orders were extinguished, leaving the convent to abandon and ruin.

In the late nineteenth century this building was acquired by the Viscount of Gandarinha, and there installed his summer palace.

In the middle of the twentieth century the building was acquired by the Espírito Santo family and in 1977 the Cascais Town Hall took possession of the whole property, with the safeguard of the management of the chapel by the local ecclesiastical authority.

The recovery of the former convent began in March 1994, in a phased project, being the target of archaeological excavations, completed in 1997.

With a shared management between the D. Luís Foundation, responsible for the programming of the exhibition center, and the Cascais Town Hall, which assures the programming of the auditorium, the Cultural Center also has a very dynamic Cultural and Educational Service.
